Built Up Roofing / Tar & Gravel
Another incredibly durable system for low-slope roofs is called a built-up tar & gravel roof, which also is applied using multiple layers of fiberglass or base material, topped off with a layer of pea gravel which is great for resisting hail or damage from any traffic that may be on the roof. While leaks can be harder to find down the road on a roof of this type, the multiple layers of redundancy help make sure that you don’t have any, to begin with for decades to come.
PROS:
- Very durable/multiple layers
- Long life cycle (20-30 Years)
- Lowest probability of leaks
- Low Maintenance
- Very walkable
CONS:
- Expensive
- Heavier material
