FAQ
What if I find a bid lower than what Jenkins Roofing provided?
Do you require money up front to start the work?
Jenkins Roofing typically follows industry standards regarding payment, which often includes a deposit or partial payment upfront before work begins. This upfront payment helps cover initial material costs and secures your spot on the schedule. The amount and timing of the payment may vary, so it’s always best to check with Jenkins Roofing directly to understand their specific payment terms and ensure everything is clear before the project starts. Many reputable companies will also provide a detailed contract outlining the payment schedule.
How do I choose a reputable and professional contractor?
Choosing a reputable and professional contractor involves several key steps to ensure you’re working with a reliable company:
- Research and Recommendations: Start by asking friends, family, or neighbors for recommendations. Online reviews and ratings on platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau (BBB) can also provide insight into a contractor’s reputation.
- Verify Credentials: Ensure the contractor is licensed, insured, and bonded. This protects you in case of accidents or issues during the project. You can verify their license through your state’s contractor licensing board.
- Check Experience and Specialization: Look for contractors with significant experience in the specific type of work you need. A contractor specializing in roofing, for example, will likely deliver better results than a general contractor for a roofing project.
- Request Multiple Quotes: Get quotes from at least three contractors to compare pricing, materials, and timelines. Be cautious of bids that are significantly lower, as they may indicate lower-quality work or materials.
- Review Contracts and Warranties: A reputable contractor should provide a detailed, written contract outlining the scope of work, costs, timeline, and payment schedule. Ensure they offer warranties on both materials and workmanship.
- Ask for References: Ask the contractor for a list of past clients you can contact. Speaking with previous customers can give you a better sense of the contractor’s reliability, professionalism, and quality of work.
- Communication and Professionalism: A good contractor will communicate clearly and consistently, answering your questions and addressing concerns promptly. Professionalism in the planning stage is often a good indicator of how they’ll perform during the project.

What should I have at our first meeting for my project?
To make the most of your first meeting with Jenkins Roofing for your project, it’s helpful to come prepared with the following:
- Project Goals and Details: Be ready to explain what you want to accomplish. Whether it’s a roof repair, replacement, or new installation, have a clear idea of the scope of work.
- Budget: Have an estimate of what you’re willing to spend. This will help Jenkins Roofing provide you with realistic options based on your budget.
- Timeline: If you have a specific timeframe for the project, make sure to communicate that during the meeting.
- Questions and Concerns: Prepare a list of questions about materials, warranties, the process, and the expected timeline. If you have any concerns, such as specific roofing issues you’ve noticed, mention them.
- Existing Paperwork: Bring any prior roof inspection reports, insurance paperwork, or previous quotes you’ve received, if applicable. This can help the contractor better understand the scope and history of the project.
- Photos or Observations: If you’ve noticed any specific areas of concern (like leaks, damaged shingles, or mold), having photos or notes about those areas can help the contractor during the inspection.
- Access to the Roof: Make sure the contractor will be able to access your roof for inspection. Clear any obstacles around your home and ensure they can safely examine the area.
Is it ever too hot, or too cold to roof?
As long as the weather is dry and above 50 degrees, we will be able to install the roof to our quality standards and apply our 10 year workmanship warranty. There is no such thing as a bad month to get your shingle roof replaced as long as the weather is not too cold.
Should I wait until later in the year?
We find some customers have issues where they waited too long and saw their insurance deadline of 1 year pass them by as life took over and they forgot, as opposed to customers having another hail storm total their roof in the next several years. New roofs with new granules are very hail resilient. We also find that some customers wait long enough to the point where we see the roof start leaking from the damage, sometimes bringing mold along with it if it is not readily visible, which is never good. Finally, material prices have been rising often enough over the last year that we believe that weather permitting, there is no time like the present to get the work done.
How much will a re-roof cost me?
Assuming you have property insurance, the damage will often be covered by your insurance provider and all you will be responsible for is your deductible. We regularly help our customers to get a beautiful roof installed with a long-term warranty. We also have financing available for those that need it.
What about the non-roof related items that have damage? (Windows, Screens, Siding, Fence Staining, Painting, etc.)
Our company has helped thousands of customers over the years with dozens of non-roof related needs that arise. We can act as a one stop shop to make your life easy, and repair the other damaged items for you feel you would like for us to do so.
What roof upgrades do people typically look into when re-roofing their home?
Roofing Material –Refer to the Residential Roof Showroom to view materials used. Impact Resistant shingles or stone coated metal roofing panels are popular upgrade options. Attic Ventilation –Upgrade to use Ridge Vent or install an Attic Breeze Solar vent or new power vents to move more air. Underlayment –Synthetic Felt or Foil Faced Underlayment can be a better solution as opposed to organic felt. Valley Protection –Stormguard Ice & Watershield provides excellent protection around penetrations and in valleys. Skylights –Adding, or replacing skylights with energy efficient hail resistant VELUX skylights. Gutters & Downspouts –To allow for more flow, we often install gutters at 5” or 6” gutters along with larger 3×4 downspouts. Gutter Guards –Wire mesh gutter guards keep your gutters clear of debris. We can also upgrade to stainless steel. Chimney Cap / Shroud –A beautiful topper to your chimney, can be customized to fit your design style.
